How we choose products

Last updated: October 2026

Wagisk is a small, research-based guide site. This page explains exactly how the products in our guides are chosen — including what we don’t do — so you can decide how much weight to give a recommendation.

What we don’t do

We don’t run hands-on product tests. We don’t have a test lab, and we don’t claim to have used every product we mention. When a guide recommends something, the reasoning comes from published specifications and measurements, not from our own trial. We say this plainly rather than implying testing that didn’t happen.

We also don’t accept payment for placement, and brands don’t see or approve guides before they’re published.

How a pick is made

  1. Start with the problem and the numbers. Every guide begins with a specific situation — a 34-inch tailgate, a dog that won’t take the stairs — and the measurements that decide it. For ramps, that means the height to reach and the angle a stiff dog can manage. See how long a dog ramp should be for how we do that math.
  2. Compare published specifications side by side. We collect the manufacturer’s stated length, width, weight limit, product weight, folded size, surface and attachment method, and put them in one table. When two sources give different numbers, we say so or leave the figure out instead of guessing.
  3. Match the product to the measurement. A product only makes the list if its specs fit the situation the guide is about — for example, a ramp long enough to keep the climb under about 30 degrees at the height in question.
  4. Name the trade-off. Every pick comes with its main downside: heavier to carry, too long for small cars, harder to store. If we can’t find an honest trade-off, we haven’t understood the product well enough to recommend it.
  5. Check affiliate programs last. We decide what belongs in a guide before looking at whether a retailer pays a commission. A product without an affiliate program can still be recommended — it just gets a plain link.

Prices and availability

We don’t print prices. They change too often to stay accurate on a guide page, so every product link says “check current price” and sends you to the retailer, where the price you see is the one you’d pay.

Keeping guides current

Specs, models and availability change. When we update a guide, the page shows the date it was last updated. If you spot a spec that’s out of date or wrong, email [email protected] and we’ll check it against the manufacturer’s current listing.

Not veterinary advice

Our guides cover comfort, access and home setup. They don’t diagnose or treat anything. If your pet’s mobility changes suddenly or seems painful, talk to your vet before buying equipment.

How Wagisk is funded is explained in our affiliate disclosure.
